  Traditionally in late August/early September, the Cherokee and many other tribes on Turtle Island celebrated the Green Corn Moon to honor the very first harvest of this life-sustaining gift from Mother Earth. The Mayans say “we are the People of Corn”, for the creators formed human beings out of ground corn in its four main colors – Yellow, White, Red & Black.

       One of the sacred “Three Sisters” of many tribes throughout this entire hemisphere, corn, squash, and beans were traditionally planted together in a way that benefited each other and returned nutrients to the soil. The gifts these plants offer is still the core of the people’s nourishment. Consider what soul nourishment is ripening in your life. What creative projects or personal improvements are you beginning to reap on your soul’s journey that can also benefit your community?
